This accessible Argostoli shore excursion combines the very best highlights of the island into one memorable experience. Visit the glorious Agios Gerasimos Monastery, enjoy a delicious wine tasting at the charming Robola Winery, and take a leisurely stroll/roll along the picturesque Assos Harbor.
Meet your knowledgeable guide and accessible van for a short scenic drive to the beautiful Agios Gerasimos Monastery on the Omalon Plateau. It houses the bones of the island's patron saint -- Gerassimos. It is said that he came to Kefalonia in 1560 and lived in a cave south of Argostoli before founding the monastery, where he died in 1579. After his death, a beautiful little church was built over his grave. A much larger Byzantine-style church now sits right next to it, boasting a richly-decorated interior. Murals depict scenes from the Old Testament, the birth and baptism of Jesus, and the Last Supper.
Visit the charming Kefalonian Robola Wine Cooperative adjacent to the Monastery. On a short, guided tour, learn about the wine production process and taste the wines, accompanied by local cheeses, tomatoes, cucumber and breadsticks. You have time to purchase wine if you wish.
The village of Assos awaits you on the west coast -- a small fishing village that offers near-perfect scenery. Leave the van to enjoy the beautiful views of the deep blue sea, impressive Venetian villas, old fishing boats bobbing in the harbor, and tavernas and shops huddled around the main square. Enjoy some free time on your own here.
