This Malaga shore excursion gives you a perfect glimpse of the picturesque Costa-del-Sol town. Enjoy a panoramic drive to and from the city center, stroll along the historic Plaza de la Constitucion, visit the glorious Malaga Cathedral, explore fascinating ancient Roman Amphitheater, and experience the popular Plaza de Merced which is the area where Picasso was born!
Start your tour by meeting your driver and accessible van at the cruise dock. From here, you will set out on a short enjoyable drive to meet your tour guide at the starting point for your accessible walking/rolling tour of Malaga, Plaza de la Constitucion. This Plaza is the main square of the city and holds a significance in both the city’s past and present. In fact, it has served at a public space since the 15th century! While here, you will admire the beautiful well-preserved Spanish architecture, the historic Fuente de Genova fountain, charming cafes, and small shops as your tour guide shares interesting anecdotes and facts with you.
Next, your tour continues through the pedestrianized shopping street Calle Marques de Larios where you will have some time to purchase souvenirs if you desire, before continuing to the stunning and glorious Malaga Cathedral. The Cathedral is an impressive example of Renaissance and Baroque style architecture and was built between 1528 and 1782. An interesting fact about the Cathedral is that due to lack of funds to finish completing the planned two towers, the structure only has one tower. It’s called “La Manquita” which means the one-armed woman. During your visit inside the Cathedral, admire the beautiful, detailed work which includes exquisite choir stalls with extravagant carvings and the two rare and beautiful organs with more than 4,000 pipes.
Escorted by your tour guide, you will enjoy a stroll down the charming Calle San Augustin enroute to the ancient Roman Amphitheater. This spectacular ruin site was built in the age of Augustus and used up until the third century. Using accessible routes, you will enjoy exploring the old ruins, capture some amazing photos and explore the onsite visitor center.
The final stop of your day will be spent admiring the extravagant exterior of Gibralfaro Castle before ending up at Plaza de Merced, the square that is home to Picasso’s birthplace. The Plaza is one of the most beautiful squares in the city, and it is dominated by its large Torrijos monument, a large obelisk, in the very center. At the end of your tour, your driver will be back to escort you safely back to your cruise ship.
