Here’s a perfect glimpse of Málaga — a picturesque Costa-del-Sol town. Enjoy a panoramic drive to the city center, including the area where Picasso was born.
Meet your driver and accessible van at the cruise dock. From here, you will set out on a short, enjoyable drive to meet your tour guide at Plaza de la Constitucion — the main square of the city. While here, admire the beautiful, well-preserved Spanish architecture, the historic Fuente de Genova fountain, charming cafés, and small shops. Your guide shares interesting anecdotes and facts.
Walk/roll through the pedestrianized shopping street Calle Marques de Larios for some free time to browse for souvenirs.
Step inside the stunning and glorious Málaga Cathedral — an impressive example of Renaissance- and Baroque-style architecture built between 1528 and 1782. Ask your guide why this structure has only one tower. Inside, admire the beautiful, detailed work, which includes exquisite choir stalls with extravagant carvings and the two rare and beautiful organs with more than 4,000 pipes.
Stroll down the charming Calle San Augustin to the ancient Roman Amphitheatre. This spectacular ruin was built in the age of Augustus and was used until the third century AD. Explore the old ruins for some amazing photo opportunities and visit the on-site interpretive center.
Admire the extravagant exterior of Gibralfaro Castle as you make your way to Plaza de Merced — home to Picasso’s birthplace. A large obelisk dominates the square. Meet the coach here and return to the ship.
Notes:
This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair (the tour operator suggests you bring a companion to assist, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs). Companions can book the same tour under the title Accessible Málaga Cathedral, Plaza de la Constitucion (Companion). The tour route avoids stairs; however, the nature of access may differ from the standards you are familiar with at home. Accessible bathrooms with wide doors are available along the tour route. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp is used for transportation. The number of accessible vehicles available is extremely limited; make your accessible shore excursion reservations as far in advance as possible. Guests requiring accessible transportation, please complete the Special Services form at https://book.hollandamerica.com/specialServices/login.action; this will ensure that suitable transportation is in place for your tour.
