Share in the secrets of Fiji's heritage, and experience the many aspects of this friendly, hospitable island, full of smiles and bright colors. Along the way, enjoy viewing the daily activities of the local people.
Your experience of village life begins in Togalevu with a traditional kava ceremony. Listen to the welcome and briefing on important Fijian protocol.
Try a sample of the national drink -- yagona -- made from the powdered root of the pepper tree and served in a bilo (half coconut shell). See how the kava is pounded or ground into a very fine form before it's mixed with water.
Learn about the many uses of the coconut palm -- known as the tree of life around here. The coconut is scraped to produce coconut milk. Enjoy a sample, along with freshly made baked goods from Fijian Donut.
The young men and women of the village provide song and dance entertainment.
Bid the villagers goodbye, reboard the coach, and set off on a panoramic drive through Suva's prime residential areas. From Tamavua Heights, take in the sweeping harbor views.
Head back to the city, driving past the Parliament building for a photo, both here and at Government House -- the home of the current president.
