This active full-day excursion with lunch combines geological wonders, lush vegetation, small towns and even showcases Hawaiian music and dance.
Board an air conditioned motorcoach for a two-hour panoramic drive to Waimea Canyon. You pass through Lihue, the island's main town and head inland, driving up the canyon to its lookout. View the Grand Canyon of the Pacific from a lookout 3,400 feet above its floor and admire how the dramatic red and brown volcanic slopes contrast with the lush green vegetation.
At Spouting Horn blowhole, hear the timeless Hawaiian legend about an angry lizard goddess called Kaikapu. Imprisoned in a submerged lava tube by a resourceful fisherman, the loud sound made by the blowhole is said to be her angry roar.
A buffet lunch is served at a local restaurant.
Drive through the Koloa region -- home of flower farms and sugarcane fields to Opaeka'a Falls. This dramatic 151-foot waterfall is framed by the Makaleha Mountains and a restored Hawaiian village.
Venture by riverboat cruise up the famed Wailua River, known for its pretty Fern Grotto. You'll learn about Hawaiian music and the traditional hula dance with a live performance of the Hawaiian Wedding Song.
On your way back to the ship, reflect on some of the intriguing places you have experienced today.
