Experience one of Kauai's most popular attractions -- Waimea Canyon -- often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. From the cliffside lookout at 3,400 feet, you'll enjoy an unsurpassed view of the 2,857-foot-deep canyon and the surrounding countryside. The canyon's dramatic size, combined with the reds and browns of exposed volcanic rock and the blues and greens of lush tropical vegetation, create a truly magnificent vista.
Visit the beautiful South Shore area known as Poipu. You'll stop at Kauai's Spouting Horn blowhole -- a natural saltwater geyser-like phenomenon that sprays plumes high into the air. This provides photographers with the fun challenge of capturing one of Poipu's most iconic coastal shots.
Leaving Poipu, you will pass through the oldest plantation town in Hawaii. Koloa is the birthplace of the sugar industry in the fiftieth state.
Notes:
Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring a jacket as the canyon rim can be windy. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
