Tangier is the stuff of great travel stories -- a sense of exotic mystery, an interesting history, beautiful vistas, unspoiled beaches, and friendly people. Ironically, the movie Casablanca was inspired by the city of Tangier. Today, it is an interesting mix of North African, Spanish, and French cultures.
A coach ride brings you to Cap Spartel, a promontory covered with rock roses and cork oaks projecting into the waters of the two seas. It looks toward the setting sun and is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean.
Reboard the coach for a short drive to the entrance of the Kasbah of Tangier. From here, set out on an uphill walk. At the top, you’ll find yourself in an area much unchanged since Roman times. The kasbah (fort) was the traditional residence of the sultan and his harem and is now one of Tangier’s most fashionable residential quarters. Visit the Kasbah Museum before moving on to the Grand Socco (market), which links the medina (Old Town) and the new city.
Enjoy a refreshment break before returning to the ship.
