Combine a panoramic city tour of Santa Cruz with the Pyramid Park of Tenerife. Driving along the boulevards of Santa Cruz, you'll pass several luxury hotels, the local botanic park and the old bullring (bullfighting is now prohibited in the Canary Islands).
En route to the Pyramid Park and Candelaria, you'll cross the Guimar Valley, where some pre-Hispanic pyramids are situated. Famous adventurer Thor Heyerdahl, who sailed the Kon-Tiki and Ra across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans respectively, discovered the pyramid site on one of his voyages. You will visit Pyramid Park and learn all about Tenerife's newest attraction.
Return to the ship via the town of Candelaria, visiting the basilica where a figure of the Black Madonna is housed. Legend has it that, well before Christianity came to the Canaries, an image of the Virgin Mary washed ashore here and was worshiped by the local Gauches, who were oblivious to its significance.
Notes:
An inside visit to the basilica may not be possible if religious services are being held.
