Embark on a comprehensive tour of Port Elizabeth, starting with a glimpse of the city center's iconic Feather Market Centre, a national monument. Drive past the historic Old Post Office, notable for its four interconnected buildings, and soak in the panoramic views as you drive past Donkin Reserve.
Make a stop at Livingstone Hospital/ Luthuli Square for a brief explanation before continuing through Govan Mbeki the middle-class area of Kwa Makgxaki, where you'll have the opportunity to capture stunning photos at a viewpoint.
Explore the heart of Port Elizabeth via Veeplass, passing the bustling trading area, with a stop at Ubuntu pathways for a leisurely walk in the garden. Visit the poignant Emlotheni Memorial Park, dedicated to fallen Umkhonto We Sizwe Cadres, and browse for crafts and beads at Mlendi craft center. Engage with the local community members and possibly meet Xhosa chief leaders.
Finally, return to the quayside, passing by Mendi Memorial and re-board your ship.
Notes: This tour is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs; however, those with walking difficulties can manage this tour with a little assistance. Please wear flat, comfortable walking shoes, a hat & sun block. Only local currency (South African Rand) is accepted in the crafts building and there is no shipping. The restroom facilities are cleaned prior to your arrival but are very basic. Please note that most of the sites visited on this tour are part of an African Township, which whilst having extreme poverty, is busy being uplifted by the government and the local community, making it a place of hope. One needs to be prepared for this aspect of the tour, as it is a "no frills experience". A small donation of pens, paper and other much-needed stationery will be handed out at the school.
