Don't miss this visit to the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo -- a chance to encounter a pint-size marsupial with a super-sized attitude.
Endemic to Australia, the Tasmanian devil is both entertaining and horrifying to watch. At feeding time, snarling and snapping, they crush up bones and fight among themselves for the last shred of food. They are meat-eating marsupials now found only on the island of Tasmania, although they once roamed widely across Australia. In addition to viewing the devils in action, wander amongst kangaroos and wallabies in a large enclosure, observe quolls, golden possums, potoroo and falcons.
Hand-feed kangaroos, walk among friendly wallabies or take a wildlife walk to see eagles and rare hawks. The park is dedicated to wildlife protection and rescue, and also boasts extensive breeding programs. Before leaving, enjoy exploring the park's Wildlife Gallery, which features photographs, artwork and sculptures. You can also scour the enticing gift shop for locally made mementos, including a wide range of flavorful wines.
En route back to the pier you will enjoy a stop at a local chocolate shop -- The Chocolate Foundry -- where you may wish to purchase some confectionary and undertake your own quality-control initiative.
Notes:
Tour requires walking 5-10 minutes from the ship to the vehicle, and walking on tour at a moderate pace on even and uneven terrain, including steps and inclines.
