The village of Triolet is home to Mauritius' largest Hindu temple, built in 1819 in honor of the gods Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, Brahma and Ganesh. You will also visit Labourdonnais village.
The Château de Labourdonnais was built in 1858, and soon afterward, a tropical orchard was planted on the grounds of the estate. A few centenary mango trees are still alive and well here. A sugar factory was also built in the village, and sugar production remained the estate's primary economic activity. When the factory was demolished in 1960, a major agricultural diversification program took place with the creation of a modern 120-acre orchard, planted with a wide variety of tasty tropical fruits such as mangos, lychees, pineapples, guavas, bananas, passionfruit, kumquat, grapefruit and other citrus. The annual fruit production is approximately 1,000 tons and enables the manufacture of various naturally flavored fruit by-products such as fruit bars, jams, marmalades and fresh fruit juice. Lunch will be served here.
Continue to Pamplemousses Village and visit St François Church -- one of the earliest Catholic churches of Mauritius. Then, at the Pamplemousses Botanic Garden, stroll along shady pathways among majestic trees and palms.
Finally, you'll visit Aventure du Sucre -- a former sugar factory converted into an interactive museum. Its location on the Beau Plan Estate, among perfectly preserved vegetation. A picturesque pond with lush greenery and wandering geese makes for a stress-free atmosphere conducive to real relaxation. Here, you will learn more about the history of sugar cane -- a product that has had a profound impact on Mauritius.
