Head 90 minutes west by coach, ascending to the mountainous center of the island toward St-Paul.
Join the trail here and walk along the high cliffs of the Cirque of Mafate for sweeping views that are among the most impressive on the island. During the 2- to 2½-hour hike, your specialized guide shares insights into the island's endemic species and geological features.
Afterward, you'll return to the ship in time for lunch.
Notes:
Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Not suitable for guests with vertigo. Bring a jacket; temperatures may be much cooler at high elevations. Fog occasionally descends into the valley. Mist and cloud often surround the higher peaks and plains; they lift, drop and swirl spasmodically during the day and can affect views. Weather and atmospheric conditions vary; no guarantee is offered with regard to visibility or views on any particular day. Terrain includes rough surfaces, formed and unformed trails, and steps. Trails can be muddy and slippery. Dress in active sportswear. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses, wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water and a snack.
