Head 90 minutes west by coach, ascending to the mountainous center of the island toward St-Paul.
Join the trail here and walk along the high cliffs of the Cirque of Mafate for sweeping views that are among the most impressive on the island. During the 2 - 2.5-hour hike, your specialized guide shares insights into the island's endemic species and geological features.
Afterward, you'll return to the ship in time for lunch.
Notes:
Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Not suitable for guests with vertigo. Bring a jacket; temperatures may be much cooler at high elevations. Visibility depends on weather conditions. Fog occasionally descends into the valley. Mist and cloud often surround the higher peaks and plains; they lift, drop and swirl spasmodically during the day and can affect views; no guarantee is made in this regard. Terrain includes rough surfaces, formed and unformed trails, and steps. Pathways can be muddy and slippery. Dress in active sportswear. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water and a snack.
