The majestic, omnipresent volcano dominates the landscape with imposing basalt slopes and rugged coastal cliffs shaped by centuries of eruptions.

Notes:
Piton de La Fournaise is a very active volcano and erupts frequently. Participate at your own risk. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, steep inclines and steps. Wear sturdy closed-toe walking shoes, long pants in stretch fabric, and a breathable t-shirt or active wear top. The dress code is mandatory; for safety reasons, the guide may refuse entry to those inadequately dressed. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Mist and cloud often surround the higher peaks, plains and crater; they lift, drop and swirl during the day and can affect views; no guarantee is offered concerning visibility or views. Travel time to the volcano is approximately 120 minutes.
