Just thirty miles from Rio de Janeiro lies the summer hill resort of Petropolis -- a stunningly scenic town founded in 1843 by Emperor Dom Pedro II. The highlight of your day will be a visit to the Imperial Museum, which houses the breathtaking crown jewels and handcrafted royal carriages. Fully furnished and authentically equipped, this museum gives the impression that the royal family, last here in 1889, departed just moments ago. The exhibits are labeled in Portuguese only, so you can explore with your guide if you like. An elevator is available.
The tour continues with a photo stop by the Quitandinha and the cathedral.
Enjoy lunch at a typical churrascaria in Petropolis before returning to Rio.
Notes:
This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Rio de Janeiro. Photography is prohibited inside the museum. Expect long lines at the attractions, and there will be steps to climb. Shoe covers are provided at the museum and must be worn. During Carnival, this tour may operate differently; please expect heavy traffic congestion and delays. Tour does not operate on Mondays or holidays.
