No sight is more famous in Rio than the statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado Mountain.
You'll set out on a drive through the city to the Tijuca Forest at Corcovado. At the base of the mountain, board an electric cogwheel train for the 20-minute ride through the forest to the top of the 'hunchback' mountain. The spectacular vistas of Rio from the train -- encompassing the city's beaches, buildings and bridges -- are quite spellbinding (weather permitting). At the top, take the elevator or escalator to the summit -- an elevation of 2,400 feet. Climb approximately 25 steps, and you'll see the crowning glory of Corcovado -- the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, made of soapstone and standing 125 feet tall. The Redeemer's outstretched arms welcome you to an astonishing 360-degree view.
Notes:
This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Rio de Janeiro. Expect long lines at the attractions and the Corcovado train station. During Carnival, this tour may operate differently; please expect heavy traffic congestion and delays. No guarantee is offered about visibility or views on any particular day, as climatic and atmospheric conditions vary and are beyond the tour operator's control. Escalators and elevators are available to reach the statue of Christ, or you can climb the 220 steps instead. Whichever option you choose, there will still be walking required and steps to climb, as well as cobblestones and uneven surfaces and some standing for extended periods. Tour does not operate on holidays.
