Leaving the pier, you will pass Mucuripe and head towards the Futuro Beach area. Watch for some highlights along the way -- the Aldeota district, Portugal Square, the mausoleum of former president Castelo Branco, Iracema Beach, and the Fortress of Nossa Senhora de Assunção.
At the cathedral, you will stop for an inside visit; then, continue to the Central Market for some time to browse among the souvenir stalls. These are piled high with the famous regional lace handicrafts, hammocks and souvenirs.
Fortaleza boasts many beaches, but perhaps the loveliest is Praia do Futuro Beach. This amazing strand stretches for four miles and is a popular spot for families. Leave your coach at the Crocobeach complex -- it is equipped with Polynesian-style umbrellas, tables and chairs and a swimming pool. For those preferring less beach time, there are shops, a beauty center and an Internet café.
