Located on the northeastern seaboard of Brazil and capital of the State of Ceara, Forteleza is a light and airy city bordered by some of the country’s best beaches.
This tour showcases the region's highlights, including a visit to the interesting neo-Classical cathedral, with its beautiful stained-glass windows, and the José de Alencar Theater, a memorial to the famous poet from Ceará.
You'll also enjoy a panoramic drive via a palm-fringed beach and through Aldeota -- a sophisticated residential area of Fortaleza.
A visit to the Mercado Central (Central Market) gives you time to browse among the delicate, handmade lace and embroidery for which the region is noted. Native hammocks and handicrafts can also be purchased here at very reasonable prices.
Notes:
Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
