Hidden in the KwaZulu-Natal hills is the wildlife conservancy of Tala Private Game Reserve -- an area of indigenous acacia thornveld, open grassland and sensitive wetlands that provides an exceptional environment for game and bird watching. Tala provides visitors with superb game viewing experiences in open game vehicles with highly knowledgeable and experienced rangers and a tracker with impressive bush skills.
At Tala, the aim is to get you close to the natural environment and animals to experience the sights, sounds and scents of the African bush. The reserve spans nearly 7,500 acres and incorporates many diverse natural environments. It features more than 300 bird species and big game that includes rhino, kudu, hippo, giraffe and the rare sable antelope. Several distinctive and remarkable plant species are also found at Tala. Fiery aloe in full bloom, imposing euphorbia, and fragrant wild sage on a dewy morning make for vivid memories.
Board an open-air 4x4 vehicle for a two-hour game drive on the reserve.
On completion of the game drive, reboard your coach and transfer back to Durban.
Notes:
Participants are not permitted to use cell phones during the game drive, or to speak loudly or stand up in the game drive vehicle, as this will disturb the animals. Smoking is not permitted. The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines, and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair, walker or scooter or for those with back or neck conditions. For safety reasons, no children under the age of 6 years are allowed on the open vehicles. Wear comfortable clothing; bring binoculars. Bring a hat; wear biodegradable sunscreen and sunglasses. There is a small curio shop at Tala. No cash is accepted on the premises -- credit cards only. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
