Travel to the famous Cape Winelands, set below the dramatic range of mountains called the Hottentots Holland and home to some of the world's finest wines. Drive through Stellenbosch -- the second oldest town in South Africa -- and pause at a wine estate for lunch a wine tasting.
Head out through the lush Franschhoek Valley to the Huguenot village of Franschhoek -- French Corner -- with an orientation tour. You will have some free time to explore at your leisure and discover a rich culture and tradition of viticulture dating back to 1688. Visit (at your own expense) the Huguenot Monument situated at the foot of the Franschhoek Pass, if you wish. The adjoining Huguenot Memorial Museum focuses on the genealogy of the Huguenot families.
Enjoy lunch at a local wine estate and a wine tasting.
Continue to Stellenbosch via Helshoogte Pass -- a scenic pass and one of the most beloved and oft-traveled roads in the Cape. This university town is the second-oldest town in South Africa, after Cape Town. Stellenbosch has become known as the Town of Oaks, and some of its glorious trees have even been proclaimed a National Monument. Stellenbosch is also famous for its typical Cape Dutch-style architecture seen along the main thoroughfare. Dorp Street is lined with charming houses, cottages and shops. After an orientation tour through this lovely town, return to Cape Town in the late afternoon.
