The route along the scenic southwest coast leads to Nora -- settled by the Nuraghic people. Later, it was a Phoenician colony that fell to the Romans in 238 BC. Today, its ruins are scattered over seven acres. Explore the Acropolis, a Carthaginian temple, a Roman Theatre, a thermal bath complex, and a villa with mosaics. At Giorgino Court -- seat of the Counts of Ciarella -- you're treated to a taste of typical Sardinian gastronomic delights.
San Luri & Castle
Travel across the fertile Campidano plains, passing through vineyards and fields of grain en route to San Luri, and explore the only intact castle in Sardinia.
San Luri is one of the most important towns in the new province of Medio. It owes its fame to the exquisite medieval Castle of Eleonora, built by the Pisans, and extensively altered in 1355 by Pietro IV of Aragon. The Spanish king considered San Luri the main seat of the Kingdom of Sardinia and Corsica.
You will return to Cagliari and the ship afterward.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, steps and inclines to reach the castle. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars.
