From the ship, travel north to neighboring County Tipperary -- Ireland's largest inland county, with richly varied hills and mountains, plains and river valleys.
Upon arrival in Cashel, visit the Rock that bears its name. The Rock of Cashel is an impressive pre-Christian settlement and the royal seat of the Kings of Munster from the 4th century AD.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant.
Travel to Cahir, located on the River Suir. Cahir Castle, which dates mainly from the 15th century, was a stronghold of the powerful local Anglo-Norman Butler family and the Dukes and Earls of Ormond. The vast walls enclose three separate 'wards' -- outer, middle and inner. The inner ward is guarded by a gate with a portcullis. Rooms in the keep are whitewashed and contain armor displays and period furnishings from the 16th and 17th centuries. Enjoy some free time to explore independently before returning to Ringaskiddy via the picturesque Vee Road, Lismore, Tallow and Midleton.
Notes:
Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Tour requires a great deal of walking and standing at both the Rock of Cashel and Cahir. Terrain includes a steep incline and uneven surfaces. Wear sturdy, non-skid walking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars.
