Enjoy the dramatic scenery of Nordfjord and visit the imposing Briksdal Glacier. Revel in the spellbinding beauty of the landscape and get up close to this majestic ice giant.
Take in the scenery as you ride towards the Nos Viewpoint, where the views over the Nordfjord region are from more than 1,600 feet above sea level. Continuing along the beautiful fjords past soaring mountains. As you pass Olden, you'll pause to photograph the emerald hues of Olden Lake.
Upon reaching Briksdal, set out on foot on a moderate, 45-minute picturesque (unguided) hike through the valley toward the immense Briksdal Glacier. Located in Jostedalsbreen National Park, it is part of the Jostedal Glacier Icefield, the largest glacier on the European mainland. The views of the glimmering ice flowing 4,000 feet down the mountainside are simply wonderful.
Returning to the picturesque Briksdal Inn, you'll enjoy a well-deserved hearty lunch. The drive back to Nordfjordeid passes beautiful Hornidal, Europe's deepest lake.
Notes: Tour requires walking approximately 1.5 miles; the first part is quite steep. Guides will not accompany you on the walk up to the glacier; meeting instructions are provided prior to your walk. Wear sturdy non-skid walking or hiking shoes. Bring bottled water. Dress warmly in layers with gloves, a scarf, and a hat; outer layer should be windproof and waterproof. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Heed the warning signs near the glacier and do not venture beyond the safety barriers. The glacier is not visible from the lunch venue. The tour route passes through several tunnels; not suitable for guests with vertigo.
