Leave the pier and pass the River Eid as you explore on foot in Nordfjordeid. Watch for the old military camp, now used to host an annual rock festival attended by up to 30,000 people. Look for the memory stones along the way -- the local way of paying respects to those killed in various wars. A particularly moving statue depicts a grieving mother.
The charming streetscapes of Nordfjoreid include old wooden houses gently buffered from each other by green gardens. You'll also see the Church of Eid and the opera house. Pause for a local treat of a cinnamon or fruit bun with a cup of coffee.
Finally, you will head to Sagastad and the Myklebust Viking ship. This is the largest Viking ship ever found in Norway, and it has been faithfully reconstructed. Digital and physical exhibitions about the Vikings, the findings and boatbuilding traditions help you interpret what you see.
