Get acquainted with past and present life in the southernmost town of Norway -- Mandal. On this tour, you will walk in the footsteps of merchants and sea pilots, mothers and tavern-keepers. Begin by crossing the Mandal River via a modern pedestrian bridge and heading into town. You'll pass the iconic Fishegg installation and see inviting timber townhouses lining the spectacular riverfront and sea wall. Popular with great artists known and unknown, Mandal teems with a history and special vibrancy all its own.
Among the narrow cobblestone streets, you will meet the locals busy at the large variety of specialty shops, cafés and bakeries. Don't miss the secret and very charming staircase path up to the Uranienborg Viewpoint. You will pass the Town Hall, once the home of the town scribe in 1766 and built by Scottish master masons.
See one of the largest timber churches in Norway and stroll along the riverbank and boardwalk. Boats tie up for the day, only feet away from the taverns and restaurants often packed with joyous vacationers.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
