Explore the industrial past of Stord at the Mining Museum at Litlabø. This museum serves as a vivid tribute to the miners' lives and labor, offering an up-close view of Norway's industrial heritage.
Watch a short film from 1960, when the mine was in production, depicting the life of the mine workers and how the mine operated. Then, step back in time with a train ride about 200 yards into the depths of the old mine and a further walk of about 250 yards to explore the challenging conditions the miners faced. See the spectacular pyrites mine and learn how it was run.
The Visitor Center explains the geological setting and helps you to understand the community shaped by the miners' toil. It is a journey into the legacy of the hardworking people who helped build the nation.
Wander about the mine area afterward -- it is pretty and inviting.
Notes:
Tour requires around one hour of walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, gravel, grass, and steps. A safety jacket and helmet are provided for the mine tunnel visit and must be worn.
