Put your best foot forward on this in-depth tour showcasing the history and culture of Kristiansund.
On a guided walk through Vågen, Kristiansund's traditional harbor area, you'll pass charming statues dedicated to the klipfish (salt cod) industry that brought Kristiansund much of its early prosperity. See the Patrick Volckmar Trading House — now a café and coffee roasting plant.
Delve into Kristiansund's heritage with a visit to the Mellemvaerftet Shipbuilding Museum, where you can see old boats and newer wooden craft undergoing repairs.
The Norwegian Klipfish Museum charts the industry's history and influence with exhibits, photos, and knowledgeable local guides. You will also have the opportunity to sample Bacalao — cod prepared according to a Spanish recipe.
Kristiansund is built on several islands, with its earliest ferry service beginning in 1876. The Sundbåt — a gorgeous wooden boat — has been in operation ever since. You'll return to the cruise pier on this much-loved passenger ferry that is an iconic symbol of the city.
Notes:
Tour requires approximately 2½ hours of walking. The ferry is public transportation; if the ferry is full, a walk around the harbor will be substituted. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces and a few steps.
