Embark on a relaxing panoramic drive to the historical town of Roskilde.
Upon arrival, your first stop will be the Viking Ship Museum, showcasing the fascinating era of the Vikings. Here you'll find five Viking longboats on display. These were sunk more than a thousand years ago and were recovered by an underwater expedition in 1962. Feel the presence of history when you stand before the five original Viking ships — partners in war, trade, and voyages to faraway places. The Viking Ship Museum focuses on the Vikings' maritime craftsmanship and their impressive ships. View the large boat collection and perhaps try your hand at Viking crafts.
Next, head to Roskilde Cathedral, dating back to the 12th century. It is the most important church in Denmark and is the official royal burial church of the Danish monarchs. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site showcasing more than 800 years of European architectural styles. It's one of the earliest Gothic brick cathedrals in Scandinavia.
Afterward, take a short, guided walk to admire the Gothic-style Town Hall and the Yellow Palace. You'll have a little free time for shopping and to purchase refreshments (at your own expense).
