A short coach ride brings you to the Castle of Bodrum, built by the Knight of Rhodes. The magnificent sun-bleached stone used to build the castle were plundered from the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus -- a magnificent tomb that was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
You will also visit the Sunken Boat Museum, whose artifacts were found underwater and date from the Bronze Age through the Middle Ages. Remnants of cargo from a 13th-century BC Syrian trade ship are on display. The Carian Princess section houses a beautiful gold tiara.
From the museum, it's just a short drive to the Myndos Gate, where Alexander the Great entered the ancient city of Halicarnassus in 334 BC.
Refreshments are served at a local hotel with a spectacular view of Bodrum Bay.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
