Unama'ki, or The Land of the Fog, is the traditional Mi'kmaq name for Cape Breton. In addition to Scottish and Acadian, Mi'kmaq culture is part of the fabric of Cape Breton Island. This is your opportunity to learn about one of the oldest civilizations in North America -- one that is steeped in song, story, food, and community.
Travel to Membertou to learn about the medicinal practices used by the ancestors of the Membertou people. You'll walk along a beautifully wooded trail with David Muise, Cultural Ambassador for the Community of Membertou, as your guide. David will encourage you to see, touch, and taste edible plants that have been used medicinally for thousands of years. You'll find their uses and efficacy to be quite surprising and enlightening.
A short distance away, Kiju's Restaurant plates up an inspired three-course lunch reflecting fresh local flavors.
Afterward, return to the pier.
