Discover the heart and soul of exciting Halifax as you get out and explore Nova Scotia's capital on foot. Your guide will encourage your questions and share many stories of Halifax's past and present.
Begin with a walk to the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, which boasts an unparalleled view over the modern port of Halifax. Here, you will meet members of the 78th Highlanders Regiment and step inside the fortress.
Down the hill and past the 215-year-old Town Clock, Province House, and City Hall, you'll find the Grand Parade. This old military parade square is home to Halifax's oldest building -- St Paul's Anglican Church.
At a strolling pace, walk along the tree-fringed streets lined with elegant Victorian buildings.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Notes:
Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. Participants must be mobile and able to walk approximately 3.5 miles (about two hours plus time at leisure in Halifax Citadel) over both even and uneven surfaces, pathways with 10 to 20 steps, with terrain including wooden decking, paved areas, gravel walkways, grassy areas, cement sidewalks and steep inclines. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
