Watching a falcon in full flight -- soaring, diving and catching air currents -- is a magical sight indeed that few people have ever seen in the wild.
Join Peter McMurchy, who has been working with Saker, Peregrine and gyr falcons and Harris' hawks on Prince Edward Island for several years. Learn how he trains his birds and, if conditions are right, watch them fly free and return to a lure at speeds of up to 200 mph. He will explain how he weighs the birds to decide whether they're ready to eat -- falcons can only be trained if they're hungry.
Enjoy the opportunity to don the falconer's glove and have the falcon sit on your hand. If conditions permit, you will also have the opportunity to have one of the hawks fly in and land on your gloved hand. Snap some pictures as a memento of this memorable experience.
