Newfoundlanders refer to visitors as "Come from Away," but today, just steps from the pier, your chance to become an honorary Newfoundlander awaits in the form of a Screech-In Ceremony.
Screeching in is a time-honored tradition steeped in the welcoming nature of Newfoundland. Officially, the Screech-In can only be led by a native of Newfoundland. You'll be asked, "Is ye a Screecher?" and with a resounding response of "'Deed I is," your initiation begins. Recite your declaration, kiss the cod (ewww!), and take a shot of rum named after the sound it inspires in its tasters -- a screech!
Traditional Newfoundland music is delivered by resident musicians playing accordion, guitar, and the ugly stick. Sing along, dance a jig, and taste traditional Newfoundland foods such as molasses bread, roasted caplin, and bologna -- and all in good fun, of course.
Return to your ship as an honorary Newfoundlander, filled with special memories of your once-in-a-lifetime experience in northern Newfoundland.
