Set out to explore Sept-Iles' public gardens.
As your guide leads you through the town, you'll discover a botanic garden created by the community, as well as hundreds of outdoor sculptures created by a local artist, adding enchantment to this active outing.
Since its creation 35 years ago, the Jardin Communautaire Ruisseau Bois-Joli has evolved into the fastest-growing botanic garden in Quebec's northern regions. Its biodiversity is astonishing considering its Boreal environment. The garden incorporates more than 14,000 plants. It was conceived and created in 1984 to bring new life to an abandoned parcel. It has gifted the community with a place to walk, enjoy nature, and appreciate artworks.
This social initiative had an important impact on the community -- the island residents cleared the site and planted flora generously donated from private gardens.
Notes:
For late Fall visits, flowers and vegetation are less abundant. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Mobility devices cannot be accommodated on the transportation, and the gardens are not accessible. Tour requires approximately one hour of walking. Transportation is by local school bus. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf.
