This locally-guided, two-hour walking tour takes you through the small village of Red Bay, where you will learn about the community and its present day culture.
At the Parks Canada Visitor Center, you’ll also have a chance to explore Labrador’s vast history and find out how the land and sea, and their abundant resources, have been exploited for centuries. The area has survived more than a century of cod fishing, but this is only the beginning of the fascinating tale.
When you visit the Red Bay National Historic Site, you will discover descriptions of the first location of imperialism in North America -- this is where Basque whalers first spent summers harpooning Bowhead and Right Whales.
Notes:
Up to two hours of walking is required. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
