From the pier, travel southwest to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens located just outside Boothbay. The gardens opened in 2007 after 16 years of planning and research. Today, this prime location supports an expansive complex of waterside gardens. A treasure to be explored, the natural habitat features manicured pathways through mossy forest and along the tidal shoreline, with themed gardens, flowers, and an alley of more than 1,000 birch trees. You will have approximately 30 minutes for independent exploration. Browse in the gift shop if you wish.
Head to Boothbay Harbor for some free time to meander about this quintessential Maine town. Unravel its long and vibrant maritime heritage -- many of Maine's boatbuilders are found here, and the harbor brims with gorgeous boats. Take the footbridge across the harbor if you wish.
Rejoin your guide at the appointed time and return to the ship in Rockland.
Notes:
Drive time is approximately one hour each way. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
