Set out with a small group (maximum 14 privileged guests) to explore the vibrant city of Portland.
A panoramic drive through the charming Old Port district reveals quaint cobblestone streets and colorful 19th-century buildings.
Meander along the scenic Eastern Promenade, take in the working waterfront with lobster boats, colorful buoys, and the picturesque Calendar Islands. Portland's Victorian architecture and magnificent merchant mansions provide a glimpse of the city's prosperity.
Visit the iconic Portland Head Light -- perhaps the most famous lighthouse in the country -- commissioned by President George Washington in 1791. A 30-minute stop gives you time to capture unforgettable photos and savor the rugged coastal views. Take a Taste of Maine picnic sampler with Maine blueberries, maple syrup, and the famous Whoopie Pie for a sweet treat.
On the way back to Portland, view both the Spring Point Ledge and Bug Light lighthouses. Each offers a unique perspective of Portland's maritime heritage and natural beauty.
Watch for Fort Preble -- one of the oldest forts in Casco Bay -- and pause at a breathtaking viewpoint with a memorial dedicated to the Liberty Ships built during World War II. Reflect on the day's adventures while contemplating Portland's skyline and coastal scenery.
Notes:
No restroom is available on the van transportation. You will view the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse from 150 yards away. Tour requires walking: approximately 80 yards at Bug Light with five steps to access the base; approximately 30 yards at the Liberty Memorial; approximately 200 yards at the Portland Head Light. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces and steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
