How does a lobster get from the bottom of the sea to your dinner plate? Today, you'll find out as you learn all about these delicious crustaceans' habits and the conservation efforts underway to ensure the sustainability of the lobster fishing industry.
Board a boat and head out to sea. Watch as a lobster trap is pulled to the surface and the catch is sorted and placed into a see-through "live tank". This allows you to keep an eye on the catch until they are released back into the sea. If you don't already know the difference between hard-shells, shedders, shorts, culls, and keepers, you will be fluent in this language after your guided outing.
Next up is a walking tour of the Old Port area. Your guide blazes a path through the narrow streets of this charming area. Just a century ago, it was home to fish houses, canneries, industrial factories and textile mills. Nowadays, preservation of the brick warehouses has resulted in numerous fresh seafood shops, coffee houses, bakeries, and award-winning restaurants taking over this magical space. Learn the history and lore of the old waterfront. Your tour ends here, and you will make your own way back to the ship.
