See the highlights of Portland and its old port district, visit Maine's oldest lighthouse, and explore Kennebunkport.
In the former warehouse district of Portland, brick buildings now house retail shops, galleries and restaurants. Admire the varied architecture, with Victorian neighborhoods contrasting with Portland's new Arts District, and enjoy 45 minutes here to wander through the picturesque streets.
You will visit Fort Williams Park on the rocky coast of beautiful Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Fort Williams was a military outpost for coastal defense serving the United States from the Spanish-American War to the Korean War. It is also the home of the Portland Head Light, commissioned by George Washington in 1791. This is the oldest lighthouse in Maine and one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country.
You will also visit the charming coastal village of Kennebunkport to view stunning Federal- and Victorian-style homes built in the 1700s and 1800s by wealthy sea captains and merchants. Pass by two of Maine's most famous homes -- the Wedding Cake House and Walker's Point. The latter is the Bush estate and the former Summer White House.
Stretch your legs in the center of town at Dock Square, with two hours to browse in the art galleries, antique shops, and upscale stores.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour. The bus parking area is a five-minute walk to the Portland Head Light.
