Retrace the footsteps of the Italian Stallion on this coach tour through Philadelphia to view some of the most famous filming locations in the beloved Rocky movie series. It’s time out with your favorite fictional Philly boxer.
Explore several neighborhoods throughout the City of Brotherly Love and different locations that were featured in the series. In the northeast section of Philadelphia, see the building used as the setting of Mighty Mick’s gym, where Micky trained Rocky to become the world-class boxer who would eventually claim the heavyweight title.
Across the street is the pizza parlor that was transformed into a bar as the setting for the climactic fight between Rocky and Tommy Gun in Rocky V.
Head along the Delaware River to the site where the iconic training montage in the first film was shot and the waterfront docks where Rocky collected a debt for Gazzo. No thumbs were harmed in the making of this shore excursion.
Zip through the Italian Market -- one of America’s oldest and largest outdoor markets. The young, unknown Rocky Balboa sprinted through this market while training and was greeted by a piece of flying fruit. Watch for Pennsylvania Hospital, America’s oldest hospital, where Rocky was admitted at the beginning of Rocky II.
Laurel Hill Cemetery is a picturesque burial ground that became Adrian and Paulie’s final resting place. The two tombstones made for them during the filming are on display near the front entrance. You can see them on foot.
Naturally, your tour ends with a chance to climb the 72 Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Channel Sly and do it with Bill Conti’s score playing in your head. You’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view of Philadelphia and a chance to strike the pose. Head back down the steps and to the bronze statue of the Italian Stallion for photos before returning to the ship.
Notes:
Tour sequence may vary. Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. Stops at Mighty Mick’s gym and the Rocky Steps are brief, and participants can remain in the vehicle. Restrooms are available at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Expect long lines at the Rocky statue; a photo may not be possible.
