Your guide will tell you the story of Betsy Ross, the woman credited with creating the first American flag, as you pass her charming 1700s home. This and other colonial architecture crowds into the narrow lanes of Philadelphia’s Old Town, which you’ll see from the coach on a panoramic drive. Elfreth’s Alley is the oldest continuously inhabited residential street of the former British American colonies and is home to a clutch of picturesque 18th-century dwellings. Watch for the gravesite of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.
Benjamin Franklin was a proponent of saving a penny, but how was that penny made? Come find out with a visit to the US Mint -- the world’s largest mint and the place where most of America’s circulating coins are produced. Take a self-guided tour to learn all about the history of this nation’s currency and a glimpse into the modern process of minting coins.
Back on the coach, tour the central core of Philadelphia, passing Philly’s towering City Hall and the famous LOVE statue. View vibrant Chinatown en route to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Here, you’ll climb the world-famous Rocky Steps, named for movie character Rocky Balboa played by Silvester Stallone. Do your best Rocky impression as you climb to the top and enjoy breathtaking (in every sense of the word) views of Philadelphia. Strike a pose for a pic with the Rocky statue (time permitting) before hopping back on the bus and heading back to the pier.
