Set your sights on some of Norfolk's most popular attractions, walking with a guide who will share stories, local legends and folklore with you.
Pass by Nauticus -- the National Maritime Center and innovative museum that's part science center, aquarium and interactive museum.
Watch for the USS Wisconsin -- one of the largest and last battleships ever built by the U.S. Navy. In the park near the battleship, The Lone Sailor is a salute to those who have ever served, are serving now, or who are yet to serve in the Navy. As part of the casting process, the bronze for the statue was mixed with artifacts from eight US Navy ships.
Overlooking the Elizabeth River, the Taiwanese Pagoda was presented to the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1983. This two-story structure commemorates enduring friendship and strong trade ties between Taiwan and Virginia. The pagoda features lovely Chinese architectural details and ornamentation. The surrounding Friendship Park is landscaped to resemble an Asian Garden with native plants, flowers and a huge koi pond.
The quaint Freemason district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Walk along its cobblestone streets to see the last pre-Civil War structures remaining in Norfolk. Many of these date back to the 1790s. St Paul's Church (1739) is Norfolk's oldest building and the only structure to survive the British sacking of the city on New Year's Day, 1776. A cannonball fired by Lord Dunmore of the British Fleet remains lodged in the church's southeastern wall.
On Freemason Street, take photos of the Moses Myers House -- one of the earliest brick homes to be built in Norfolk after the Revolutionary War.
Walk through Town Point Park, home to beautiful landscapes, public art, fountains and a Veterans Memorial.
The tour concludes at Nauticus. Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
