Enjoy a guided walk on a portion of the spectacular Cliff Walk, followed by a visit to one of Newport's most elegant mansions.
With New England's rocky shore and crashing surf on one side and Newport's most extravagant mansions on the other, the Cliff Walk remains one of the top attractions in Newport.
You will also step inside the grandest of Newport's "summer cottages" -- The Breakers -- commissioned by Cornelius Vanderbilt II, Chairman and President of the New York Central Railroad. Inspired by the 16th-century palaces of Genoa and Turin, the 70-room Italian Renaissance-style villa (1895) was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, who directed an international team of craftsmen and artisans. The mansion is situated on a 13-acre estate overlooking a spectacular view of the rugged Atlantic coastline.
Notes:
Due to the popularity of The Breakers, expect a short wait at the entrance to the mansion. Interior photography is permitted; however, use of selfie sticks and tripods is not allowed. Tour requires a walk of approximately one mile. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The mansion is not wheelchair accessible. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Mansion tours at The Breakers are self-guided audio tours using the Newport Mansions App. Participants must bring their own smart device with earbuds and download the Newport Mansions App. You are encouraged to download the app prior to arrival at the mansions. The self-guided audio tour via an app is available in English, French, Spanish, German and Mandarin. Additional house information, floor plans, historical photos and other information are also available on the app. Printed house narratives are available at the front door of each mansion.
