Transfer to Longue Pointe and set out to discover the historic importance and incomparable marine heritage of Ile aux Perroquets. You'll travel by Zodiac boat across the sea to step ashore here. With access to the island being very limited, this opportunity is both a pleasure and a privilege.
Located 28 miles west of Havre-St-Pierre, the lighthouse was built in 1888 following five major shipwrecks in the Mingan Islands. This wooden construction housed the lighthouse keeper's family, the assistant keeper and the other staff members. The lamp guided ships along the treacherous shoreline along with flags, sound signals, a telegraph system, a radio beacon, and telephones. Learn about the lives of the succession of lighthouse keepers and their assistants who occupied the island for nearly a hundred years. Keep an eye out for whales and seals as they are often seen here, along with seabirds, including puffins.
This is a fascinating glimpse of a very remote, windswept island that is quite beautiful.
