Transforming silica into magnificent works of art, the glassblowers of the Verrerie La Méduse glass-blowing studio have set up shop in a heritage building at the old St-Joseph School. Visitors are invited to watch them work and to marvel as molten glass morphs into fanciful masterpieces.
The roadside rest area at Dune-du-Sud offers access to a beautiful beach. Red cliffs sculpted by the sea shelter one side of the beach with holes and caves to explore. Walk along the beach if you wish; swimming is available for human polar bears.
The Cap Alright Lighthouse is more than just OK -- it has offered spectacular views over the dramatic grey cliffs of Plaisance Bay and Entry Island since 1928.
Chemin Pointe-Basse is a route peppered with many examples of traditional local architecture -- simple houses and barns are quite simple and painted in a variety of bright colors. Acadian, French and New England influences are evident in the enclosed porches, corbels, verandas, and shingles.
Notes:
Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm of Cap-aux-Meules. Transportation is by school bus; participants must be able to climb steep steps to (dis)embark the bus. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing if you wish to swim; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk.
