This absolutely fascinating day trip into the Aussie bush (backcountry) starts with a coach journey to Proserpine -- a small city in the heart of sugarcane country. Your destination, reached via the charming city of Cannonvale, lies on the estuary and wetlands of the Proserpine River -- home to many fascinating bird and mammal species. There are also more than 150 estuarine crocodiles, known locally as "salties," living here.
Board a sightseeing boat lowered by crane into the river for a fun and scenic cruise through the mangroves. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you will learn about this special ecosystem.
A tractor-pulled wagon ride through the Goorganga wetlands lets you see the land that has changed little since Captain Cook first explored it more than 250 years ago, discovering forests, mangroves and saltpans.
After this thirsty work, you're invited to try traditional 'billy tea' and freshly-cooked damper -- Australia's Bush bread.
For lunch, savor a delicious Aussie-style barbecue of meats and salads served at a covered campsite.
