Start your day with a short panoramic drive through Townsville. You will pass The Strand, and the main shopping area of Flinders Street, and take advantage of a brief photo stop at Castle Hill (time permitting). Drive past some of the well-preserved buildings of the Colonial period before leaving the town and heading into the countryside.
At Billabong Sanctuary, the fun begins. The sanctuary covers 27 acres of natural tropical North Queensland bush and is home to all kinds of native and endemic mammals, birds and reptiles. One of the sanctuary's rangers will greet you and take you through some of the park where you can learn about the amazing animals of Australia. Perhaps choose to have your picture taken with a cuddly koala or hold a wombat (at your own expense). If you're brave enough, there's snake and crocodile handling, too.
Following your walk, enjoy some free time to stroll at your own pace and mingle with the macropods (kangaroos and wallabies), take part in the handling and feeding shows, or simply relax by the pool.
At the end of your tour, transfer back to the ship.
Notes:
Terrain is uneven. Some areas may not offer wheelchair access. Walking during free time is at guests' discretion. Tour does not operate on holidays.
