The Rangitaiki River offers seven miles of whitewater rafting exhilaration and fantastic scenery, from the buzz of the "Geoff's Joy" torrent of whitewater to stunning native forest views.
The Rangitaiki is a mix of Grade III and IV rapids -- fun, bouncy rapids running through a beautiful river valley. The rapids require good teamwork, with training given before the trip so you'll understand and know all the required paddle and safety commands, with some practice undertaken on flat water before launching into the rapids.
There is around 15 minutes of flat water at about the mid-point of the trip, allowing you to relax, enjoy the scenery, chat with your guide and fellow rafters, and even hop into the river for a swim if you wish.
Notes:
Minimum age is 10 years. Travel time to the Rangitaiki River is approximately two hours each way. The trip is strenuous; participants must be physically active and agile enough to move around quickly in the raft. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim and participate at your own risk.
