Enjoy the journey across the Canterbury Plains to Long Beach Estate -- one of Canterbury province's original sheep-farming stations, founded in 1864 and was originally 30,000 acres in size.
The station was a self-supporting community with its own post office, school, general store, flour mill, brick works, church, smithy, bakery and cook house and employed a permanent staff of 200 farmhands. The station has been owned by the same family since 1864, but today is only around 3,000 acres and with a focus on prime lamb production, wool, cereal crops, grass seed crops, and a dairy farming unit. Long Beach Estate is also famous for its historic buildings and stunning gardens -- the venue for many functions, including weddings.
Meet the owners of the property, enjoy a picnic-style lunch, learn the property's fascinating history, and take a guided tour of the gardens.
