Board an air-conditioned motorcoach for a scenic 145-mile drive through the stunningly beautiful and rugged Australian landscape.
You'll travel along the scenic Indian Ocean Drive, passing through quaint seaside towns en route to Cervantes. This small fishing village -- population 500 -- was named for an American whaling ship wrecked nearby in 1844. Indulge in a two-course lunch here.
Refreshed, you will head south into the nearby reaches of the 1000-acre Nambung National Park, site of the mysterious Pinnacles Desert. This yellow quartz sand desert features a forest of interesting pillars, varying from mere inches to 20 feet tall. Geologists believe these were created by millions of years of complex interaction between lime, sand, wind and rain. A narrated drive through this awe-inspiring desert scene is followed by some free time to wander among the magnificent formations on your own. The eerie spires form remarkable shapes against a stark, moon-like desert landscape. Watch carefully as the slowly shifting sunlight brings out the colors and shadows of these unique natural wonders often featured in films. And, keep a keen eye out for the park's endemic emus and kangaroos.
Contemplate the natural wonders around you during the scenic drive back to the ship in the glistening harbor at Fremantle.
