Enjoy an easy-paced walking tour developed by the docents of the Puke Ariki facility. This is a combination library and museum dedicated to preserving and presenting New Plymouth's interesting story. Your guided historical walk takes you through the central city as an experienced local guide relates events, developments and anecdotes. You'll hear stories of land battles, colorful characters, and small triumphs. You'll learn how the fledging community found its feet and managed to grow fairly steadily from the time of the early settlers' arrival in New Plymouth in 1841 to the present day. Many national and local personalities and ordinary people have helped to shaped this isolated city. Watch for some intriguing buildings along the way.
