Drive to the Kanak Cultural Center passing the beautiful bays of Nouméa en route -- Lemon Bay, Anse Vata Beach and the Promenade Vernier. The Cultural Center, designed by Renzo Piano, is a harmonious alliance of traditional and modern indigenous New Caledonian (Kanak) architecture.
The highlight of your outing is a 45-minute, very easy walk with your guide along the Kanak Pathway. With tales of Kanak myths and folklore, your guide will capture your imagination as you walk the shaded, flora-lined trail leading to the three imposing, faithfully reconstructed, traditional Melanesian huts from three different regions.
Back within the main air-conditioned center, view the various exhibition huts housing precious ritual masks and costumes, totem poles and sculptures-all of exceptional standard.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring insect repellent.
